We make fresh food from farmers accessible for New Yorkers across the 5 boroughs. We feed New Yorkers by operating outdoor markets and delivering fresh food from farmers across the city. We build, restore, and support community gardens and sustainable urban infrastructure. We have over 50 years of experience building community gardens, green infrastructure systems, and other built elements like raised beds, shade structures, and seating. We provide education and resources that empower New Yorkers to live sustainably. We empower New Yorkers with knowledge, skills, and support they need to cultivate strong, healthy communities and gardens. We’re a mission-driven aggregator and distributor providing a reliable, transparent, and sustainable supply of high-quality fresh produce and farm products to nonprofits, institutions, businesses, and restaurants across all NYC boroughs. Our History & Victories Founded in 1970 andevolvingever since Grow NYC was born from the ideals of the first Earth Day in 1970 as the Council on the Environment of New York City, originally as a policy-based organization, writing comprehensive reports about quality of life issues. Today, Grow NYC is a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit serving New Yorkers across the five borough with environmental and food access programs that promote fresh produce from farmers, community gardens, and education to foster collective action for environmental, climate, and food justice. Mayor John Lindsay taps Marian Heiskell to establish the Mayor’s Council on the Environment, in response to New Yorkers’ concerns about quality of life in the city. Today, Grow NYC is an independent environmental nonprofit, serving more than 3 million New Yorkers every year.
